Which Cribs Are Safe? | Bowling Green, Ohio Child Accident Lawyers

Following a recent ban on drop-side cribs and the recall of millions of other cribs by the Consumer Products Safety Commission, many parents may be wondering what makes a crib safe anymore.

According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, parents should look for cribs with four solid sides and no moving parts. These cribs should be made of sturdy materials and should not move or shake when pressure is applied to them.

Many manufacturers have already stopped producing drop-side cribs due to the threat of babies becoming trapped or falling out of the crib entirely.

Parents should also look for cribs containing wood with low emissions of volatile organic compounds such as formaldehyde. The EPA has been instructed to set a national standard for these emissions by 2013.

According to the Wall Street Journal article, parents should also be wary of secondhand cribs and should focus more on quality construction and less on price.

Our Bowling Green, Ohio child accident lawyers have handled cases where infants have been killed or injured by unsafe cribs. Our office hopes these new standards will prevent us from having to handle any more.
