New safety regulations for portable and full size cribs | Toledo, Ohio Child Accident Lawyer

Last week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission approved new regulations for full-size and portable cribs. No more will new parents need to worry about all the durability problems that have plagued the safety of cribs, leading to recalls approaching 10 million units over the past few years.

The new regulations will require:

  • The elimination of drop-side designs that have been related to at least 32 deaths over the past few years.
  • Tougher testing that should make sure slats, spindles and mattress supports don't break during use.
  • Labels to prevent misassemble and alert parents to the developmental signs as to when to stop using a crib.
  • Shoddy portable cribs often found in hotels will need to be replaced, as well as those in daycare centers that don't meet the new regulations. However, daycare centers and public accommodations like hotels have two years to comply.
