Mother recovers $7 Million for child’s death by dog mauling | Toledo, Ohio Child Accident Lawyer
A mother of a child who was mauled to death by two dogs received more than $7 million from a Texas jury. Justin Clinton was 10-+years-old when he was attacked and killed by a pit bull and an American bull mix that belonged to his friend's family.
Roughly 85 percent of the jury panel was "well aware" of the incident - which occurred in the small community of Leverett's Chapel, Texas. Once the jury was impaneled, the challenge continued, with friends and neighbors taking sides in an emotionally charged trial where the topic was the life of a young boy cut short.
Five days and 46 witnesses later, jurors awarded the mother $5 million for her pain and suffering, $2 million for Justin's pain and suffering and additional compensatory damages for the cost of his burial and medical services prior to death. The $7 million verdict - which does not include punitive - is believed to be the larges ever in a case involving a child killed by dogs.
