Lead poisoning child injury accidents casued by recalled toys

The hazards of lead paint poising have been known throughout the world since the early 1900's. Most cases of child lead poising result from the ingestion and inhalation of lead based paint and particles. In a recent article in the Jere Beasley Report, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Comission, nine childrens product manufacturers, importers, and sellers have agreed to pay more than $500,000 in civil penalities. These penalities settle allegations that the firms "knowingly manufactured, imported, or sold toys and other childrens articles with paint or other sufrace coatings that contained lead levels in violation of federal law." 

The items that were recalled in 2007 and 2008 include:

·        Pens

·        Metal water bottles

·        Pencil pouches

·        Sunglasses

·        Halloween pails and baskets
