According to the Jere Beasley Report, there have been major problems over recent years involving furniture falling on not only adults, but especially on children.
Large television sets are the source of major concern. A recent study shows that the number of children killed or injured by falling television sets appear to be on the rise.
Statistics from the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Ohio reviewed data from 100 emergency rooms and estimated that about 14,700 furniture-related injuries occurred each year between 1990 and 2007.
Televisions accounted for almost half of these injuries, as they were the most common articled involved in the serious child accidents. The child television accidents resulted in close to 300 deaths.
It is imperative that parents properly secure their television sets, and teach children not to play near them. Falling TV's can have devestating consequences, and can cause broken bones, serious closed head injuries, or even death.
